Interns Needed: Test Drive the Mortar

What you are in for…

Ok, so you’ve decided you want to be a part of this crazy world of marketing/advertising. Now you need some “experience” with a real, live agency.

This is your chance.

Mortar continues to grow. Along the way attracting a great mix of clients who love our blend of brand consulting, public relations, integrated marketing, and creative results.

And now we need some extraordinarily clever Interns.

This will start as a “test drive”, with excellent potential for full-time role.

We’re looking for a self-starter who wants to be in advertising for the love of it, not just the cool factor.

Proven verbal, writing, and organizational skills (we’re talking MAJOR attention to detail) a must; experience combining marketing, advertising, and/or public relations a plus. Sense of humor, an open mind and can-do attitude are more than essential.

In addition to the obligatory coffee, skittles, beer, and small wage we’re offering something a little different. The chance to help build a new kind of agency.

Send an email pitch, along with your resume. Due to time constraints, we can only respond to candidates that catch our interest, so be creative.

And yes, we really do read every resume.

But no calls, please. We’re on the phone enough already.

Diva Services

Sunday is a new company offering 24/7 personal assistance over the internet.

For 30 bucks a month you get 30 task requests; users can just write an email to
have any task taken care of. Book your flights or find a hotel and make reservation. You can give them the name of your doctor and get an appointment. Pretty much anything. They have a whole suite of concierge type services for you to pick from wake up calls, information gathering, etc. Short of time? Can’t find away to run errands? They’ll take care of it for the small fee of $20 per hour.

I see this as a whole new trend of offering diva services via online. There is a market of time strapped people who can’t afford these luxuries in the traditional sense. With the net as a distribution system there is a whole suite of services. Brands should be looking at this as missed opportunity, there are people who are willing to pay for "velvet rope" services no matter what category. Our suggestion is figure out how your brand can integrate these kind of seemingly exclusive offers into your brands and products.

speech bubble logos, oh my

Anyone notice the rabbit-like explosion of speech bubble logos in this crazy Web 2.0 world? If you haven’t, the folks over at eachday will be kind enough to show you a horrifying collection (pointed out by IF!). And, they’ve got a good point:

Yes, speech bubbles communicate all the warm fuzzies of connection, dialogue, messaging, community, collaboration, social media, etc. of Web 2.0 applications. Unfortunately, and rather like rabbits or pigeons, there are simply too many speech bubble logos in existence. It’s officially overdone. Sorry.

Here’s a small sample of the expansive speech bubble family from eachday’s post.
